Crown Quest

01. Problem
Modernising the monarchy: gamifying Versailles’s heritage
Versailles is a global icon of history, yet it faces a persistent hurdle: engaging a younger, digitally native audience outside the palace gates. The challenge was to design an innovative experience that revitalises local tourism by encouraging visitors to explore the city's hidden streets and local businesses rather than just the main historic site. By leveraging Augmented Reality (AR) and the urban art of "Invader," we aimed to transform a traditional cultural visit into a ludic, interactive adventure that provides a fresh perspective on the city's heritage
02. UX strategy
To build a user-centric experience, I defined key personas ranging from young adults seeking a weekend adventure to families wanting educational fun, such as Angelo (37) and his son Arthur (8).
User Journey

Interaction
Scanning an Invader triggers an AR animation and presents a true or false question. Answering correctly unlocks the next riddle, keeping the user engaged in a rewarding loop

Validation
Real-world testing with our target audience confirmed the route’s success: it guided users away from crowded tourist spots into hidden local neighborhoods, offering a fresh way to experience the city.
03. Visual Identity
Typography

TT Lakes Neue: This sans-serif typeface was selected as our primary font for its exceptional legibility and balanced proportions. Its slightly geometric forms and rounded corners project a modern yet friendly appearance, making it perfect for both high-impact headings and long-form body text. The uniform character heights and generous spacing ensure the interface remains accessible for users of all ages.

Panton: To complement our primary font, we integrated Panton for its sharp, elegant geometric lines. Designed with a focus on web design principles, it offers a distinct contrast with its straight lines and clear angles, providing a sophisticated touch that aligns with the royal theme of Versailles.
Colours
We selected a "Golden Beige" (#FFE2B3) to symbolise the wealth of the Sun King, contrasted with a "Blue-grey" (#6CA8BE) to evoke royalty and classic stone architecture.

Logo
A pixelated crown was designed to visually represent the core "Crown Quest" narrative:

Graphic elements
Following the logo, we have added couple graphic elements representing some of the best space invaders seen in Versailles:
04. Final Product
Crown Quest: an augmented rescue mission
The final product is a functional AR scavenger hunt driven by a compelling narrative: the King’s crown has disappeared, and the user must rescue it before the evening banquet.

The core loop
Users follow indices to locate an Invader, scan it to unlock a 2D AR animation, and then solve a historical trivia question to receive the next clue.

Technical Ingenuity
By using the AR.js library, we transformed the high-contrast pixel art of the mosaics into custom tracking markers. This removed the need for unsightly QR codes, allowing the street art itself to act as the digital trigger.
05. Marketing & Website
Optimize your SEO from Figma and website.
The marketing website needed to reflect Sewow’s core philosophy: making SEO accessible, native, and friendly. Instead of overwhelming potential users with complex data and technical jargon, the landing page is designed for clarity, approachability, and conversion.
